Saturday Gameday
On spicy autumn mornings, I would wake early to prepare for the big game. Id pull on Dad's long-underwear bottoms, and those oversized orange and black rugby shirts. Id lace the size six and a halves, stretch on some rubber football gloves, and smear Dad's eye black from the tube found in the dusty cardboard box of our outdoor garage. Fear of Thirteens?
I am pretty much cured of triskaidekaphobia. Last year I met the woman who will be my life partner on the thirteenth. In reality I was suffering at the time. That day my girlfriend of the day told me she needed to move away to itch some sort of traveling flea. I had written a book, and in it everything was true except that I had met a girl with her name. In the book, I had moved to Colorado, which I did after writing it, and married this girl.
