Bills hope Patriots-style personnel moves work
Thu July 12, 2007 2:19 am
The best way for the Bills to be compared favorably with their division foes would of course be to, um, win more games and visit the playoffs, but the point is that Buffalo is finally realizing that NFL rosters are almost entirely stocked with interchangeable cogs. If the Bills' oft-victorious AFC East neighbor has made this philosophy work, it's worth a go...Continue

Bills' offensive linemen prepare to plow straight ahead
Wed July 11, 2007 2:53 am
In addition to the subtractions, fans are pleased that General Manager Marv Levy's free-agent maneuvers improved the collective aptitude of the primary blockers. Unlike his pickup of Reyes, they're also hoping the new linemen turn out to be more than stopgap solutions. At first glance, that appears to be the case, as both Langston Walker and Derrick Dockery look to be upgrades over the players who left town...Continue

History says 1,000 yards will be difficult for Bills' Lynch
Tue July 10, 2007 1:58 am
Accumulating Addai-like numbers as a rookie will no doubt be a success for Lynch and the Bills, but don't necessarily expect it to happen. However, if Lynch can gain yardage in the neighborhood of McGahee's 990, block well for quarterback J.P. Losman, continue to display the positive attitude he's shown so far and emerge as a receiving threat, which he was in college, then Year 1 would certainly be a positive for the Oakland native...Continue

Don't forget, Hargrove is in the mix for the Bills
Mon July 9, 2007 1:22 am
Think of a Bills defensive end, and Aaron Schobel is the first name that comes to mind. He'd be followed by Chris Kelsay and then, maybe, Ryan Denney. Meanwhile, the forgotten man seems to be Anthony Hargrove, the "oh yeah, the Bills picked him up" guy. ..Continue

Just how good is Bills' Schobel?
Fri July 6, 2007 1:38 am
On paper, the Buffalo Bills' current defensive roster has the appearance of being one of the worst in the NFL going into 2007. The team lost arguably its best defender, cornerback Nate Clements, in free agency and two veteran linebackers -- London Fletcher and Takeo Spikes -- as well. While the Bills replaced Fletcher with promising rookie Paul Posluszny, a second-round pick from Penn State, they're banking on either Keith Ellison or Coy Wire to fill Spikes' shoes. Whether that works out will be one of the big storylines of Buffalo's 2007 season...Continue

Tampa 2 scheme benefits Buffalo's corners
Thu July 5, 2007 1:21 am
Before Jason Webster inked a contract with the Bills in late May, many observers questioned why General Manager Marv Levy didn't nab himself a cornerback during the 2007 draft. The answer they're forgetting is that he scored one the year before. ..Continue

Like his punts, Moorman ends up in a good place
Wed July 4, 2007 1:36 am
Has the Bills' most valuable player of this decade been a punter? The fact that it's even a question should be a signal to some regular positional guys to get in gear, but it's also a testament to the golden boot of Brian Moorman. Simply, he's been fantastic. He delivers nearly every time he's sent on field, which stands in contrast to the dismally feckless performance Buffalo's offense has occasionally put on before him in seasons past. ..Continue

Center, right guard could hold back Bills' O-line
Tue July 3, 2007 2:20 am
One of the biggest stories of the Buffalo Bills' eventful offseason was the fact that they seemingly fortified their offensive line. It had been a problem area in Buffalo for the last decade, which compelled General Manager Marv Levy and team owner Ralph Wilson to shell out a combined $75 million to guards Derrick Dockery and Jason Whittle and tackle Langston Walker. Of course, because NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, the Bills likely won't pay the full $75 million, but they still spent plenty of cash nonetheless...Continue

Bills' Evans achieved greatness in 2006 with little help
Mon July 2, 2007 1:44 am
I'd like to meet a Bills fan who isn't sold on Lee Evans. You can still come across the occasional misguided anti-J.P. Losman contrarian along with pockets of grumpy ingrates who don't think Aaron Schobel is all that, but are there any Buffalo backers who think of the organization's top receiver as anything less than spectacular? It would be easier to find someone who doesn't like "Napoleon Dynamite" or "Office Space" than to find a Bills fan who holds a dim view of Evans, who supplanted Eric Moulds in short notice and skyrocketed to elite status last season...Continue

After solid '06, what can Bills' Losman do for an encore?
Fri June 29, 2007 2:08 am
If that progress continues into September and beyond, there's no reason to believe the ex-Tulane star won't cement his place as one of the game's most dependable starting QBs in '07. In the event that doesn't happen, though, Losman -- who has two years remaining on his original rookie contract -- will face heat from first-year third-round pick Trent Edwards, a very promising yet slightly unpolished Stanford product whom the Bills passed up need players (Cal cornerback Daymeion Hughes, for instance) to take this past April with the 92nd choice...Continue

Darius would be a tough fit for Buffalo
Thu June 28, 2007 1:34 am
But curiosity over whether one recently released player, Donovin Darius, could end up playing for the Buffalo Bills is now more than mere speculation, as the team hosted him at its headquarters in Orchard Park, N.Y., while it considers possibly adding him to the roster. So, talk of Darius to Buffalo is no longer an unfounded daydream, but there's the remaining problem of whether he's still capable of bringing something to the team other than a prominent name on the back of a jersey...Continue

AFC EAST: Some things are not so pleasant
Wed June 27, 2007 9:30 am
AFC East news and notes. The Bills are pleased to be holding camp on campus and that's the extent of the harmony in the division. Each rival has issues. The Dolphins still have Daunte Culpepper hanging around, the Patriots still have a decision to make with Asante Samuel and the Jets , although pleased with minicamp, have their own contract issue with Pete Kendall. ..Continue

Simple works best for Bills' defense
Wed June 27, 2007 1:55 am
I figured out how to run the Bills' defense. My qualifications for being able to do so are limited to A) having used approximately one million hours of my life to watch football and B) wasting most of my irreplaceable time at an expensive college playing embryonic versions of Madden Football, but I still did it. From what I ascertained in 2006, you tell the linemen to rush forward, cornerbacks to bump and cover the guy they're facing, safeties to watch whatever half of the field they're on, and the linebackers to hang back and guard the general vicinity where they're standing. There you go...Continue
